The Minnesota Ballet
Role: Costume Designer, Draper
Director: Karl Von Rabenau

Based upon the works of Edgar Allen Poe. This production included acts of The Masque of the Red Death, The Purloined Letter and The Pit and the Pendulum.  The settings of each act were independent stories, set in modern dress, period and within the darkness of a tomb.

The over arching theme of the acts is manifested through Death. It embodies the story’s core truth: that death is indifferent to wealth, art, and power. As this figure moves through a crowd, they become the final guest—one who was never invited, but always arrives.

In the design of this production, the use of color was both thematic and practical. Colors and texture were used to show opulence of the various court versions in each act. The limitations of lighting within the small venue also played a role into the saturation of colors.
